Herne Hill in London, Altrincham in Greater Manchester and Ipswich are among the recipients of the funding, which is awarded in recognition of the innovative ways the towns have revitalised their high streets.
The towns have been chosen by a panel of experts including representatives from the Association of Town and City Management and Alliance Boots.
The fund is part of the Government’s support for communities across the country to rejuvenate their high streets, which also includes schemes such as the Portas Pilots and Town Teams. Prisk said in a statement that this fund aims to reward areas already delivering the most effective and innovative plans to bring their town centres back to life.
"The High Street Renewal Award has encouraged towns to ‘up their game’ and put their best ideas to work in order to save their high streets, and we were delighted to see the high level of applications from all over the country," Prisk said in a statement.
"These are just seven of the many towns that came forward, and they are a shinning example of what can be achieved. I would like to congratulate them for the innovative and interesting ways in which they have given their high street a new lease of life".
"It is in everyone’s interests to see our town centres thrive, and I want people across the country to take inspiration from these towns and look at what can be done when communities work together," he added.
