Ryedale District Council has published proposals to introduce community infrastructure levy (CIL) rates within its administrative area ranging up to £120 per square metre.

The Council launched a consultation on its preliminary draft charging schedule (14-page / 292KB PDF) earlier this month. It sets out proposals to levy residential developments at a rate of £70 per sq m, with the exception of the District's 'lower charging zones', including the wards of Rillington, Sherburn, Norton West and Norton East, in which a rate of £55 per sq m would apply.

For supermarket developments, a draft rate of £120 per sq m has been set and for retail warehouses, a rate of £60 per sq m.

Education, health, community and emergency services as well as all other chargeable development will be subject to a nil rate levy if the draft rates are adopted.

The consultation is open for comments until 15 November.
