The Council has proposed that residential developments within Zone 1, which covers the Borough's 'New Communities', including Wichelstowe, Commonhead, Tadpole Farm, Eastern Villages and Kingsdown, be subject to a zero rate levy. For residential developments in all other parts of the Borough, the proposed rate is £55 per square metre.
A zero rate levy is also proposed for retail developments within Retail Zone 1, which covers the town centre. A proposed rate of £100 per sq m would apply across the rest of the Borough if the rates as drafted are introduced.
The Council has proposed that a zero rate levy be applied to all other uses within the Borough.
The proposed rates for residential developments remain unchanged from the rates set out in the Council's preliminary draft charging schedule (PDCS) which it consulted on last year. However, the PDCS included proposed rates for retail developments ranging up to £200 per sq m and also set rates for hotel and leisure developments.
The consultation will be open until 30 May. The Council said it expects to implement CIL by April 2014.
