A detailed planning application has been submitted for the first phase of the proposed regeneration of Swindon town centre at Union Square.

The application was jointly submitted by Muse Developments and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to Swindon Borough Council.

The application for the first phase of the regeneration scheme seeks consent for proposals to build one residential building comprising 45 assisted living apartments and an 850 space multi-storey car park.

“This detailed planning application for the first phase of development is a significant milestone for the project and a precursor to a start on site in the spring of next year,” said Doug Finlay, development director at Muse.

Previously, outline planning permission was granted for the entire Swindon town centre scheme at Union Square on 8 November 2011.

The masterplan for the scheme outlines wider plans to provide 650,000 square feet of offices,  150,000 sq ft of ancillary retail, 450 residential units and 25% of which are to be made available on an affordable rent basis.

The scheme also proposes a new Primary Health Care Trust building, a new bus station, a hotel, a new public square and some improvements to infrastructure.
