Richard's experience

  • Advising Skatteforvaltningen (Danish Customs and Tax Administration) in "one of the most complex pieces of litigation in British history". With a value of c. DKK 12.6 billion involving over 100 defendants globally it’s an alleged fraud on a massive scale. Losses arise from Cum Ex trading and WHT refunds.

  • Advising the shareholders of a company in a multi-million claim for fraud and breach of contract against a holding Company in the Middle East.

  • Advising the Government of an African Country on the defense of a US$130 million UNCITRAL arbitration claim concerning crude oil supplied under sale and purchase agreements.

  • Advised a German client on a US$73 million ICC arbitration against a Saudi company arising out the respondent's failure to complete the purchase of shares in two joint venture companies under a put option

  • Advised the Government of an African Country on the defence of a US$500 million UNCITRAL arbitration claim in respect of crude oil allegedly overlifted under an exploration and production sharing agreement

  • Advised a power station operator on an Ofgem enquiry into potential breaches of the REMIT Regulation arising out of the provision of data for the station's Stable Export Limit (SEL)

  • Acted for the Administrators of a leisure group in relation to the disposal or termination of charters in relation to various cruise ships, as will as in relation to creditor claims and arrests or threatened arrests in Singapore and elsewhere.

  • Acted for an international distribution company based in Germany, in a £15m ICC arbitration against a Saudi Arabian chemical producer, under a long-term supply agreement for methanol derivatives.

  • Acted for an international distribution company based in Germany, in a $1m LCIA Arbitration against a Nigerian fertilizer producer Ltd, under an offtake agreement for granulated urea.

  • Acted for the largest animal feed importer in Ireland in a successful GAFTA arbitration against a Slovakian trader, in relation to a cargo of contaminated Ukrainian sugar beet pellets, as well as enforcement proceedings in Slovakia.
