Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised global renewable energy developer BayWa r.e. on its partnership with SUSI Partners to develop rooftop solar PV projects across Southeast Asia.
The partnership will focus on the development, construction and operation of solar PV projects with a capacity of up to 20MWp in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia. Swiss fund manager SUSI Partners will fund the projects via its Asia Energy Transition Fund, while BayWa r.e. will develop and manage the projects.
The Pinsent Masons team on the matter was led by Singapore-based transactional services partner William Stroll, with support from senior associate Steven McKinley and associate Bryan Chapman.
Commenting on the matter, William Stroll said: "We are pleased to have advised BayWa r.e. on this transaction, which gives it access to capital to develop its exciting pipeline of solar PV projects in Southeast Asia. This transaction is a great example of an impact fund partnering with an experienced developer to successfully deliver large-scale renewable energy projects. Complementary partnerships like this will be pivotal to achieving the ambitious growth targets set by Southeast Asian countries for their renewable energy markets in the coming years."
Niranpal Singh, BayWa r.e. Managing Director, Malaysia, said: "We look forward to expanding our services by being part of the SUSI Asia Energy Transition Fund, which aims to advance the energy transition in Southeast Asia’s emerging markets. We hope that due to this partnership, companies will be able to adopt PPAs and rooftop installations more quickly and efficiently. We’ve already identified an initial portfolio of over 20 MWp, and BayWa r.e. will help with developing, constructing, and operating these top-tier solar energy solutions."
BayWa r.e. was founded in 2009 and has become a leading global renewable energy developer, service provider, distributor and energy solution provider, with presence in 31 countries.
