The Pinsent Masons’ Brand Protection and Creative Rights team are presenting a series of monthly webinars focusing on critical Intellectual Property (IP) challenges and opportunities faced by IP owners. In this fifth session, we will discussing the hot topics in advertising.

Advertising is often central to a strategy of business growth, whether that be on a corporate website or in wider broadcast media. In-house teams are regularly asked to ‘clear’ adverts, but it can be difficult to determine whether an advert is regulation compliant. This webinar is intended to provide more clarity and practical help in the following areas:

  • The UK advertising regulatory regime – We will give a brief refresher of on the advertising regulatory regime in the UK and look at some recent rulings of the Advertising Standards Authority on advertising matters of day-to-day relevance to most businesses.
  • Environmental claims – Claims around the green or sustainable nature of products and services are becoming increasingly common and we will consider how such claims can be made lawfully.
  • Social media advertising – We will also explore what the future of advertising might look like, particularly in the context of social media, and highlight some of the intellectual property issues that could arise as a result.
