Universities & higher education sector - hot topics - relations and compliance

This session will explore some of the hot topics expected to impact the Higher Education sector in 2022 and the practical impact of these issues on for your institutions.

This will include relations with staff and student and compliance with recent national security and investment regulation. We will cover:

• UCU’s recent strike ballot and the staff implications for managing and responding to industrial action, 
• Mitigating the impact of industrial action on students and managing complaint/claims risks – including learnings from recent OIA pandemic decisions
• The pensions implications of the industrial action and the future of USS
• The pledge that HEs no longer use Non-Disclosure Agreements in staff and student settlements. 
• The National Security and Investments Act 2021 which came into force on 4 January 2022 and the mandatory requirement (backed by civil and criminal penalties) to pre-notify certain corporate transactions in 17 key sectors – many of which apply in the higher education sector.
