The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) will dispose of enough public land to support the delivery of more than 16,000 new homes by March 2015, its latest Land Development and Disposal Plan (LDDP) has revealed.

The figure has increased by more than 2,000 homes since the previous LDDP which was released in June.

The LDDP outlines the potential for the HCA to bring more than 200 sites to market by March 2015, including around 480 hectares of land for residential development and around 900 ha for commercial and other uses.

The plan also sets out details of 19 newly acquired sites from central Government bodies which have the capacity to support over 2,000 new homes, subject to planning consent.

The HCA said it is set to announce further acquisitions of predominantly NHS sites "in due course". It said that these could have the capacity to support up to 800 further homes and that its housing capacity is likely to increase further once the sites have been acquired.

“There are already nearly 70 sites being marketed on our website, and today we have set out a further indicative pipeline that will give our partners development opportunities right up to the end of the spending period," said HCA chief executive Andy Rose in a statement.

“We are the third largest contributor of land supply in government and this is core business for the HCA, building on our commercial expertise, experience of managing large portfolios of land and investment, and local knowledge."

“As set out in the Spending Round outcome, from April 2015 the HCA will take on a role as the disposal body of choice for central government in bringing public land to market which will help improve the efficiency of government land transactions with the private sector,” Rose said.
