Internet giant Google has postponed its planned move to new headquarters in north London's King's Cross by at least a year because the plans for the new building were "not sufficiently ambitious", the Daily Telegraph has reported .

Camden Council granted planning permission to the proposed £650 million scheme in September. The proposals included the construction of a new building ranging from seven to 11 storeys in height to comprise 725,000 sq ft of office space as well as 50,000 sq ft of shops at ground floor level.

Google had said it would move into the new building in 2016, however according to the reports it has now put the date back until "at least 2017" because it said the consented plans were not ambitious enough.

“We have a great plan for the new building, but we want to challenge ourselves to do something even better for Google, King's Cross and for the local community,” said Google's head of real estate and construction Joe Borrett.
