Joint venture submits plans for Olympic fringe site

Joint venture partners East Thames Group and London and Continental Railways have submitted a hybrid planning application to the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) for new neighbourhood area known as Chobham Farm in Stratford in east London.

The plans comprise an application for outline permission for a mixed-use development to provide up to 927 homes as well as up to 4,800 square metres of commercial floorspace.

Full planning permission has also been sought for a mixed-use development comprising six buildings ranging from three to ten storeys in height to provide 173 homes and 1,162 sq m of commercial floorspace.

Chobham Farm is one of the strategic areas highlighted for redevelopment in the London Borough of Newham's Stratford Metropolitan Masterplan, which sets out a vision for Stratford over the next 20 years. The Masterplan describes the area as an ideal location to create a new neighbourhood with family homes, attractive new parks, squares and open space for local communities to enjoy.

Following consultations with local residents earlier in the year, a number of amendments have been made to the plans. Changes include an increase in the number of homes with their own roof terrace; the addition of new streets connecting to the bridges in the east village and proposals for business units in the northern end of the Masterplan.

The application was submitted to the ODA but will be decided by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) after it assumed planning powers for the area from the ODA on 1 October this year.

Subject to planning permission, the joint venture partners have said they hope to start construction on the site in early 2013.
