The neighbourhood plan for Norland Conservation Area in west London's Holland Park was last week passed at a local referendum by a 74% majority.

The plan is the first neighbourhood plan to be approved in the capital and the sixth in the country. It sets out aims for development and conservation in the area, including the definition of aspects within the area which should be protected, preserved or enhanced and the identification of areas where improvements should be made.

The plan was worked up by the Norland Conservation Society after the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea designated the society as a Neighbourhood Forum last year. It was approved for referendum by an examiner in September this year, subject to a number of modifications.

The final stage of the neighbourhood plan process will be for Kensington and Chelsea Council to formally adopt the plan as part of its local planning policies.
