Mole Valley District Council has opened a consultation on its community infrastructure levy (CIL) preliminary draft charging schedule (7-page / 1.16MB PDF) (PDCS) setting out proposed rates for residential and convenience retail developments within its administrative area.

The Council has proposed that residential developments across the District will be subject to a rate of £125 per square metre.

For convenience retail developments, a rate of £100 per sq m is proposed. A zero rate levy is proposed for comparison retail developments as well as all other developments.

The Council proposes to introduce an instalment policy for payment of the CIL charges, with an option for payments to be made in up to three instalments at 90 day intervals.

The Council said it does not expect to implement any discretionary exemptions and that, if circumstances change, it will seek to revise the levy rather than provide discretionary relief from the charge.

The consultation will be open until 26 April. The Council said it expects to adopt CIL by March 2014.
