Planning application registered for the redevelopment of Camden's 'Hawley Wharf'

A planning application for a large redevelopment of Hawley Wharf in London was registered with Camden Borough Council yesterday.

The application has been submitted by Stanley Sidings following two years of consultations. Full planning permission is sought for a mixed use scheme at the site, which houses Camden Town's market.

The site covers approximately 4.6 acres and was partly destroyed by a fire in 2008. The boundaries of the site Hawley Wharf are Chalk Farm Road, Kentish Town Road and Regents Canal, NW1.

Two planning applications have been submitted. The first is for the demolition of all buildings across the site, including shopfront extensions and remaining structures at 1-6 Chalk Farm Road (excluding 1 Hawley Road).

The second application proposes the creation of eight new buildings that are each between three and nine storeys high. The buildings would be used to provide housing and retail units, which would create employment.

The plans also seek permission for the construction of a cinema and a weekend and bank holiday farmers/produce market.

Hawley Wharf is identified as an important site for development and additional guidance on development in the area is contained in the Hawley Wharf area planning framework.

A public consultation is expected to be completed by the end of the year, before Camden Council deals with the application.
