The masterplan for the Hungate scheme, which is located by the River Foss, includes housing, a new bridge over the River Foss and a building for community space set within a framework of city squares, riverside piazzas and green spaces.
Outline permission for the scheme was granted in 2005 and the first phase, including some of the housing and the new bridge, has been completed. The 195 homes proposed to be built during the second phase of the development will comprise one to three bedroom apartments.
The Hungate site has the subject of a major archaeological dig funded by the developers and carried out by York Archaeological Trust which revealed artefacts dating back to the Roman period.
"We are delighted to have the planning application submitted for these first-class homes in the historic town of York," said Lend Lease head of residential Richard Cook in a statement. "We have been working closely with City of York Council throughout the planning process and have incorporated feedback from the public and other civic bodies including York Archaeological Trust following consultation in order to deliver homes for residents in York which they can be proud of."
"Their central location in the heart of the city with access to restaurants, retail and transport makes them an ideal investment and we are excited to be able to build them for home-buyers," he added.
