Proposals for 753 Cambridgeshire greenfield homes given approval

Huntingdonshire District Council's development management panel this week resolved to grant outline planning permission to developer Fairfield Partnership's proposals for a major residential development on farmland near Godmanchester village.

The scheme on a 46 hectare site will include the construction of 753 homes as well as a new primary school, business space, a local centre or shop and public open space with a sports pitch.

The Council's planning officer recommended in a report (157-page / 9.41MB PDF) to the panel that the proposals should be approved. The report acknowledged that there was a "notable level" of local opposition to the development, however, it concluded that the proposals constituted a sustainable development and that there were no material considerations indicating that permission should not be granted.

"The proposed development of this site for mixed uses will contribute to building a strong and competitive economy, provide a supply of housing to meet current and future generations, provide accessible services and local infrastructure," the report said.

Fairfield Partnership's Steve Biart welcomed the approval. “Our plans will deliver benefits for the local community, including a new primary school, a £250,000 contribution towards the enhancement of the Judith’s Field Pavilion and £600,000 of the Community Infrastructure Levy charge reserved for Godmanchester Town Council to use on local projects," he said according to local reports.

“The development will also deliver a step change in the frequency and accessibility of local bus services and provide a highway solution to the existing and growing capacity constraint at the Ring Road-Avenue junction,” he added.
