The Royal Borough of Greenwich planning committee has now granted outline consent for the first homes in Quitain's 10,000 new home development plan for Greenwich Peninsula.
Yesterday's planning approval paves the way for the construction of 506 homes, designed by architects Jestico + Whiles and C.F. Møller. This will represent the first phase of development at the Southern Quarter, which will eventually include up to 2963 homes.
“This decision paves the way for construction work to start on site this summer delivering new jobs and homes; a positive step in transforming the vision for Greenwich Peninsula into reality," said Max James, chief executive of Quintain.
The new homes form part of Quintain's £5 billion transformation of Greenwich Peninsula into one of London's most vibrant riverside communities.
"The Peninsula Riverside development will continue the unstoppable momentum East London has enjoyed since the Olympic Games," said Anthony Gill, development director for Greenwich Peninsula said.
