Runnymede Borough Council has launched a consultation on its community infrastructure levy (CIL) preliminary draft charging schedule (PDCS) (13-page / 541KB PDF) setting out proposed rates of up to £125 per square metre.

The Council has proposed that residential developments across the borough should be subject to a residential CIL rate of £125 per sq m. An exception to this will be the former Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) site in Longcross, which is subject to major redevelopment plans, where a proposed nil rate levy will apply.

For retail developments, a draft nil rate levy has also been set to apply within the DERA site as well as within the town centres and the Virginia Water Local Centre. Retail developments throughout the rest of the borough will be subject to a rate of £75 per sq m under the proposals.

Business developments, including office and industrial uses, and all other developments, including community uses, will all be subject to a nil rate levy if the rates in the PDCS are adopted.

The consultation will be open for responses until 3 October. The Council said it aims to have its CIL charging regime in place by April 2014.
