Mayor of London Boris Johnson has adjourned a representation hearing to determine developer Oakmayne's proposals for a 41-storey residential redevelopment of Eileen House in London's Elephant and Castle to 19 December, according to reports by the Estates Gazette .

The 335-home application, which was called in by Johnson for his determination in 2011, was due to have been decided at a public meeting at City Hall yesterday. The Greater London Authority's planning officers last week issued a 'Stage III' report in which they recommended the proposals should be approved.

Johnson decided to adjourn the meeting to allow negotiations between Oakmayne and nightclub Ministry of Sound which is located opposite the proposed development site. The club has long been opposed to the proposals because it says noise complaints from the future residents would be likely to result in the club losing its license and forcing it to close. Earlier this month it wrote an open letter to Johnson asking for a guarantee to ensure it will be able to continue to make the same level of noise as it currently does.

According to the reports, Johnson said the adjournment was "the obvious thing to do when there is a lot at stake".

"We should have a short adjournment of a month or so and I propose to allow a negotiation to take place between the Ministry of Sound and the developers and then we will all come back here. I look forward to you getting your heads together and hear what sort of progress you can make,” he said.
