Pinsent Masons appoints partner and two lawyers to launch work health and safety team in Australia

Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has continued to add services to its Australian practice with the launch of a dedicated work health and safety (WHS) practice with the appointment of partner Carlie Holt and two lawyers.

Carlie is one of Australia’s leading WHS lawyers, advising clients in the construction, manufacturing, healthcare, consumer goods and government sectors on WHS matters, coronial inquests, and inquiries.

Carlie joins Pinsent Masons from Sparke Helmore, together with senior associate Georgina Dodd and associate Laura Slocombe. The team begins with Pinsent Masons today.

Head of Australia Matthew Croagh said the addition of Carlie and her team would play an important role in the firm’s risk assessment and management practice.

Matthew said: “We are seeing a significant change in workplace and industrial relations laws in Australia, which means we need to work alongside our clients on complying with what is an increasingly complex regulatory environment. Carlie and her team will work closely with our Risk Advisory Services group and our employment and rewards team to provide an outstanding risk assessment and management service.”

These appointments continue a run of lateral hires in Australia since August 2023, including the launch of an Australian employment and reward practice with the hire of a team of six lawyers, led by partners Aaron Goonrey, Ben McKinley and Neil Napper, based in Melbourne and Sydney.

During this period, the firm has also appointed planning and environment partner Florence Reviere in Melbourne and Hannah Griffiths and a team of three lawyers to launch the firm’s Australian restructuring and insolvency practice in Sydney.

Carlie said the move to Pinsent Masons was an excellent opportunity to work with a growing risk advisory team.

“Pinsent Masons is focused on deepening the services it provides its client across the Asia Pacific region and adding a dedicated WHS practice, especially for clients working in our key sector focus areas of energy and infrastructure, is vital to attaining that goal.”

“I am looking forward to working closely with our Risk Advisory Services group and our employment and rewards practice team to provide a full legal service focused on helping our clients navigate the increasingly complex rules and regulations overseeing the management of Australian workplaces.”
