Community investment: Starfish
By now you've probably heard the story that inspired the name we've given our community investment programme: Starfish.
"A young child's route to school took him along a beach. Each day, the child would pick up starfish that had been washed up on the shore and toss them back into the ocean. One day, a neighbour asked the child, "Why do you bother tossing the starfish back? There are so many - surely it doesn't matter?" The child looked at the starfish in his hand and said, "It matters to this one." And he threw it back into the ocean. (Based on the writings of Loren Eiseley)
The moral of the story is that we can't bring about complete social change by ourselves but even our smallest positive actions can have a beneficial effect on somebody, somewhere.
Our theme: 'Inspiring Young Lives'
The opportunities to “inspire young lives” are as wide as the interests and ambitions of our people but we have focussed our support on initiatives which promote education, employability and enterprise.
We are proud to have been shortlisted and assessed as a finalist in the 2015 Business in the Community Responsible Business Awards. Click here to read more about our award winning programmes.
