This interactive workshop offers HR professionals and managers a practically focused, deep dive into the more complex aspects of the legal duty to make reasonable adjustments for disability.

Assessing what is “reasonable” in the context of disability adjustments is inherently complex because it requires balancing employee needs with operational requirements. Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of how to assess what is “reasonable,” and the limits on the extent of this duty. They will also be able to respond to requests made by employees, in a way that explains any decision to refuse requests and/or put forward alternatives. Content will focus on:

  • EHRC guidance on factors to consider when assessing whether it would be reasonable to accommodate an adjustment
  • handling requests for light/restricted duties as a reasonable adjustment
  • making reasonable adjustments to absence triggers
  • requests for permanent home working as a reasonable adjustment
  • the extent of the duty to make adjustments to testing, assessment and redundancy processes.
