The Department of Trade and Industry has announced the launch of a web site providing small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with practical support and best practice information, delivered in a series of modules.

Connectbestpractice.com is the British Government's first attempt at a site dedicated to streaming media content and follows on from the existing CONNECT workshops and seminars.

It gives small firms access to 'real-life' documentary video case studies covering issues from leadership and accessing finance to health and safety and marketing. There is also a resource library and a series of self-assessment tools with the aim of boosting SME profits, productivity and performance.

Chief Executive of the Small Business Service, Martin Wyn Griffith, said:

"CONNECT really does help SMEs. Last year we undertook an independent survey of companies who attended CONNECT presentations and the results were fantastic. Companies reported average increases in profits of £670,000 and increases in sales of over £4 million. Bringing CONNECT on-line will bring increased productivity and profits for UK SMEs."

According to the DTI, of over 16,000 businesses that saw a CONNECT module last year, 78% reported a positive impact on their business. The new site lets web users view over 150 of the best practice case studies and interviews (provided they have a fast internet connection).
