Intel claims that Via Apollo chip sets, which are used as an interface between the processor and other system components, infringe on Intel's Pentium 4 patents because Via did not enter into a technology licensing agreement. Intel is seeking a court order to stop the sale of the Via chip sets together with unspecified damages.
Via has retaliated, denying Intel’s charges and claiming that in fact Intel’s processors and its Pentium 4 compatible chip sets are infringing Via’s patents. Via today said it will be seeking an injunction and damages. In addition, according to news agency Reuters, Via also plans to sue Intel for violating Taiwan’s Fair Trade Law through “wilful destruction of Via property by Intel representatives and employees.”
