The 7.4 hectare site next to Seacroft Hospital was one of six NHS sites acquired for redevelopment by the HCA, the UK government's housing and regeneration body, last April. Keepmoat and Strata were chosen this week as the HCA's preferred developers of around 700 homes at the site, with a mix of two- to four-bedroom units proposed.
A proportion of the homes will be made available to purchase under the government's Help to Buy scheme.
Keepmoat's regional managing director for Yorkshire, Mark Knight, said in a statement: "This momentous win for Keepmoat in West Yorkshire emphasises the strength of our house building and regeneration offerings. Public sector clients are confident in our ability to deliver on our plans, and we are reassured that investment in this part of the country will be beneficial to both local people, the community and the economy."
Strata chief executive Andrew Weaver said: "We are delighted to be appointed on this landmark project. We are very much looking forward now to working closely with our partners in delivering a quality housing scheme that will herald a new and exciting chapter at Seacroft."
Construction is expected to commence later this year.
