Investment group Catalyst Capital has submitted plans to the London Borough of Newham for the development of a 28-storey student tower at Stratford Centre in east London.

Under the proposals, existing buildings on the site, including the Morgan House block, will be demolished and a 28-storey building will be constructed to comprise 650 student beds. The scheme will also have a new supermarket and smaller shops as well as public realm improvements.

The Stratford Centre, which is owned by Catalyst Capital, consulted on the proposals last year. It said in a statement that the scheme is expected to create 250 new jobs, in addition to protecting the 530 existing jobs in the Centre.
