Bristol city council has given its approval for a new residential tower in St. Catherine's Place , Bedminster. The 16 storey tower is a partnership between Urbis Development Ltd and Ashdown Capital. The companies are kickstarting development as part of a £100 million regeneration scheme  for the area.

Under their plans, the companies will demolish the existing St Catherine's Place tower block, and replace it with 180 luxury apartments which will be available on the private rental market. The retail space in the shopping centre will also be updated and modernised.

The project has been mired in controversy, as local residents have expressed their anger towards the height and size of the tower.
