Countryside Properties selected to redevelop Goresbrook Village

The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham has selected developer Countryside Properties to redevelop the Goresbrook Village housing estate in Dagenham.

The proposed redevelopment of Goresbrook Village includes plans to build 149 properties, 98 of which would be owned and managed by the Council. The remaining 51 homes will be made available for sale on the open market. It is planned that three tower blocks will be demolished to make way for the new development.

Under the plans, up to 72% of the housing will be "family houses", with three or four bedrooms. The remaining properties will be two-bed flats built in low rise buildings and a shop will also be built for the new development.

The Goresbrook Estate currently includes three 16-storey tower blocks, which will be replaced with "high quality" low rise housing. The scheme has been designed by Stitch Architects & Urban Designers and Mae Architects.

“Goresbrook Village had reached the end of its natural life, so we took the decision to include this in our programme of estate renewal rather than spend millions trying to renovate the flats," said Phil Waker, cabinet member for housing at the Council. "Having appointed a developer we should be ready to build as soon as the flats are pulled down."

Goresbrook Village is one of three housing estates which are being regenerated as part of Barking and Dagenham Council’s Estate Renewal Programme. The others are Leys in Dagenham and Gascoigne in Barking.

Work is expected to start on site in early 2013 with completion expected around March 2015.
