The regeneration of the entertainment venue began last year and the masterplan will outline Farrell's vision for the repair and restoration or the venue. The design options for the Palace will be displayed during a public consultation on the regeneration plans, starting in May.
The Palace was awarded over £320,000 in funding from English Heritage earlier this year, enabling it to undertake repairs and appoint a conservation architect. The regeneration is designed to make it possible for the Palace to hold events, including live music and sports.
Farrells and engineering consultancy WSP have been appointed by the Palace's owner Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust.
“We are delighted to be working with Terry Farrell & Partners and look forward to them interpreting our vision for Alexandra Palace by creating imaginative and practical design concepts for this historic place,” said Duncan Wilson, chief executive of the Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust.
A previous masterplan designed by Aukett Fitzroy Robinson’s was rejected following a High Court appeal in 2010. The £55 million mixed-use scheme included plans to redevelop the site as a hotel, casino, cinema and exhibition centre leisure complex.
“Alexandra Palace [is] one of London’s treasures that is steeped in history. It is amazing to think that 30 years after designing the temporary pavilion there, my practice now has the opportunity to shape the future, which we believe will be a very exciting one,” said Sir Terry Farrell, founding partner of Terry Farrell & Partners.
