Lovell will work in partnership with the Mayor and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham to deliver the homes which will comprise 213 homes for private sale, 104 homes for affordable rent and 45 homes for shared ownership sale.
The 12.8 hectare site was previously occupied by parts of Barking Technical College. The site was inherited by the Greater London Authority (GLA) in April last year under the Localism Act's transfer of powers from the London Development Agency to the GLA. It is one of the first sites to be released as part of the Mayor's drive to unlock public sector land for development.
“This is an exciting scheme which will create an attractive neighbourhood where people want to live at this key site,” said Lovell regional director Peter Taylor in a statement.
“The development’s high-quality, well-designed family homes with gardens will include properties both for sale and rent as well as shared ownership homes for sale, providing an opportunity for local people to get on to the housing ladder,” he said.
“With rising demand for housing in the capital, in particular affordable homes to buy and rent, the Mayor is determined to speed up the release of public land for development, boosting construction and increasing the number of homes being built for hard-working Londoners to support the capital’s economy," said Deputy Mayor for Housing and Land Richard Blakeway.
"This development in Lymington Fields shows just how successful this approach can be, bringing new homes and jobs into the community,” he said.
Lovell said that construction on the site is expected to start at the end of the summer and to complete by the end of 2017.
