Plans for the development include the construction of five new buildings providing a covered market to comprise 42,000 sq ft of shops and restaurants. The buildings will also have offices, a 185-bedroom hotel and eight new homes.
The masterplan for the scheme has been drawn up by architect Ellis Miller. The site, which is located below a London Overground viaduct, is currently used as a car park.
"Shoreditch Village presented us with a huge set of challenges on one of the most high-profile and difficult sites in the capital," said Ellis Miller partner Jonathan Ellis Miller according to a retail gazette report. “I believe we have addressed those issues in a novel and interesting way that respects the context, spirit and community of Shoreditch."
“I’m delighted that we have been able to provide so much new public space at the heart of Shoreditch Village alongside a lively mix of uses that will ensure its social and commercial success," he said.
If the Council grants permission to the scheme, it is expected that construction will start in late 2014 and to complete by mid-2015.
